Useful Information

1. Drivers Licence

To drive the rental vehicles, drivers must be in possession of a full, unendorsed driving licence. Licences must be produced at the Europcar location at the time of collection. Drivers must be in possession of their licence at all times when driving the vehicle. Certain minor endorsements may be accepted – please check with supplier before making a booking. Licences must be from the country of permanent residence. NON-EU/EEA driving licences cannot be accepted if the holder has been a resident in Ireland for more than 12 months.

Holders of US, Canadian, Australian and all EU member states are not required to supply an International Driving Permit (IDP). International Driving Permits where required, must be accompanied by the original domestic licence of the driver. This is clearly stated on the international permit. An International permit presented without the domestic licence, will not be accepted.

2. Drivers Age

At the commencement of rentals, main drivers must meet the requirements for licence eligibility:

For Mini, Compact, Economy, Intermediate and Estate car classes, drivers must have been eligible to hold a driving licence for 9 years.

For Full size, Standard or Passenger Vans or Premium car classes, drivers must have been eligible to hold a driving licence for 12 years.

Drivers who are 75 years old and older must contact the rental desk as further restricitions may be applicable.

3. Credit Card Information

The main driver must be the holder of a major credit card which they must produce on arrival. In the case of a “Chip and Pin” credit card, the card holder must know their PIN number. A credit card is required for the deductible for 5000 euro and additional charges such as extra drivers, fuel, parking fines etc. Europcar accept MasterCard and Visa. Europcar cannot accept debit cards, prepaid cards, electronic cards or cash. The credit card must be in the name of the main driver. At the time of rental there must be sufficient credit on your card to cover all charges including the deductible amount.

Please note: The car hire company cannot hire a rental vehicle to any customer arriving without a credit card in the main drivers name or who does not know the pin to their card or where there are not sufficient funds to cover all costs for the rental.
